Communities further out, closer to Lake Anne or South Lakes, still generally require a short drive or rideshare from either station.
From Reston, the Silver Line runs east through McLean and Tysons, then Arlington's Ballston-Rosslyn corridor, into downtown DC - meaning a Reston-based family can reach any of those areas without a transfer, a meaningfully shorter trip than Reston's pre-2022 bus-only connections offered.
Reston's fundamentally car-oriented layout means many families still find a vehicle useful for day-to-day errands even if the Metro now handles the DC-bound trips. Ask any specific community directly about their distance from the nearest platform rather than assuming rail access automatically means walkability.
